Yo, Stuff Happened

ZOMG, lemme break down this whole Note Event situation for u because apparently this is harder than it sounds.

Whatcha Pickin'

So like, u wanna set up a Note thing in the MIDI editor? Cool. Pick "Note" from the type menu. Revolutionary, we know.

The Channel Situation

Here's the deal: the channel tells OnSong which MIDI channel to yell at (or listen to). By default OnSong's all "I'll take messages from LITERALLY EVERYONE" but if ur equipment is being picky, smash those + & − buttons to lock it down to ONE specific channel like a helicopter parent.

U can also tap the channel name to Rename This Thing so it matches whatever ur equipment calls it. Personalization! How fancy.

Pick Ur Note, Bestie

Wanna send or get a note? Tap that "None" option & OnSong will spew out a whole list of notes with their MIDI nerd numbers (0–127), plus the letter names, enharmonic dealies, & octave info. Choose wisely (or don't, it's not like it matters).

Velocity = How Hard U Hit It

When ur sendin' note events, velocity is basically "how angry is this note?" Default's 127 (FULL RAGE). Slide that bad boy around between 0–127, or just tap the number & pick from a list if ur fingers r too clumsy for sliders.

Heads up: OnSong sends a Note Off right after Note On (real considerate, we know). But when OnSong's diggin' through songs by MIDI index, it straight-up ignores Note Off events like they don't exist. Shrug emoji.
