Tap Settings

Th' Tap screen be settin' up tap tempo over MIDI in both directions, matey. Arrr! OnSong can send a MIDI event on every beat accordin' t' th' tempo set on each song, and it can take its tempo from taps sent by another device. On some MIDI equipment, this can be used t' set th' tempo instead o' usin' MIDI clock, which sends 24 MIDI events per quarter note, or sendin' th' BPM as Control Changes.

Sync Mode

Choose which way taps travel, savvy?

  • Off neither sends nor follows taps. Default.
  • Both sends taps and follows taps from another device.
  • Lead sends a tap on every beat at th' tempo o' th' song ye be viewin'.
  • Follow takes OnSong's tempo from taps another device sends.

Lead

If ye choose Both or Lead, ye can configure th' MIDI events that be sent usin' this section:

  • Channels chooses th' channels t' send on. Choose On All Channels or one or more specific channels.
  • Beat be th' MIDI command sent on every beat. Type it usin' OnSong's MIDI syntax, such as CC105, th' default. Only th' controller matters, so ye don't need t' enter a value. Separate more than one command with spaces.
  • Downbeat be an optional command sent on th' first beat o' each bar. Sendin' one lets th' other device line up its bar, not just its tempo.

Follow

These settings control which incomin' taps OnSong follows if ye've selected Both or Follow:

  • Channel chooses th' channel t' listen on, or On all channels.
  • Beat be th' MIDI command that counts as a tap.
  • Downbeat be an optional command that marks th' first beat o' a bar.

These be stored as MIDI Triggers, so they also appear in th' Triggers list and can be edited there. Leave a field empty t' stop followin' it, ye scallywag.
