Ableton Link (aka The Sync Stuff™)
The Ableton Link screen keeps OnSong's tempo & beat in lockstep with Ableton Live & other Link-enabled apps on the same Wi-Fi network. Apps join the session automatically, so there's literally nothin' to connect. Open it from MIDI Shenanigans under Tempo Sync Vibes. To learn how Link works with the rest of OnSong, see Ableton Link.
Ableton Link
This row shows whether Ableton Link is Turned On or Turned Off. Tap it to open Ableton's own settings panel, where you flip Link on or off & see how many apps are crashin' the session. Tap I'm Done to bounce.
Sync Mode
This chooses how OnSong's tempo gets along with the rest of the Link session (spoiler: it's complicated):
- Both shares the tempo both ways. You change OnSong's tempo? BOOM. Everyone's tempo changes. Someone else changes it? OnSong's like "okay fine." Default mood.
- Lead makes all the other apps bow down to OnSong. If a peer tries to change the session tempo, OnSong's like "nah bro, I'm in charge" & puts its tempo right back.
- Follow adopts the session tempo & keeps its bleepin' mouth shut about pushin' OnSong's tempo anywhere.
Status
The Connection row shows the state of the session & updates while you're starin' at the screen:
- Connected means at least one other Link app is chillin' in the session.
- Searching… means Ableton Link is on but can't find its friends yet. Awkward.
- Off means Ableton Link ain't runnin'.
If Connection stays stuck on Searching… while another Link app is literally right there, check that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network & that your network isn't bein' a jerk by blockin' device-to-device chat.
