The Other Phone™
For years people have begged—like, seriously begged—for OnSong on Android and ZOMG, it's finally here. Download it on your Android 9.0+ device from the Google Play Store & prepare to have your mind blown. Or at least, not blown. We're just happy it works.
The Full Monty (No Watered-Down Nonsense)
We weren't about to slap together some half-baked knockoff for Android when our iOS/iPadOS version is out here lookin' like a supermodel. So buckle up, buttercup—OnSong for Android is the real deal. Same sauce, different kitchen. Download it from the Google Play Store.
So What's Weird About Android?
Plot twist: it's not exactly the same. When we ran into Apple's exclusive tech toys, we got creative & figured out how to make 'em work on Android anyway. Spoiler alert: we succeeded. Mostly. Here's the tea ☕
Add To OnSong
RIP Add To OnSong extension—it's iOS/iPadOS only. BUT—Android's activity sheet & OnSong's Import From the Web feature basically do the same thing, so... close enough? Your move, hot stuff.
Apple Music
Yeah, you can still link backing tracks from Apple Music & Spotify in OnSong for Android & yeet 'em straight into your library. Real talk though: you'll need both apps installed, an internet connection 24/7 (because streaming is needy), & you're stuck using our interface instead of Apple's fancy one. Also, you can't play those tracks through OnSong's backing track player since they're streamed. It is what it is. 🤷
Audio Stuff (It's Literally Everything)
We're lowkey obsessed with our audio features—metronome, backing tracks, multitracks, pitch pipe, chord playback, the works. Android crushes it on all fronts! We've got wild stuff cookin' for 2027 & we're stoked to say... Android's gonna slay that too. BUT heads up: not all Android devices vibe with low-latency audio, & we can't crank the volume past 100% on Android. NBD unless you're gettin' spicy with our future music production tools. 🎛️
Document Scanning
OnSong for Android rocks its own scanner, or you can grab the one from Google Play Services if you're feeling fancy. iOS/iPadOS uses Apple's built-in thing. Same end result, just vibes different.
External Video (AirPlay Who?)
Plot twist: some Android devices don't even have wired video, & AirPlay is Apple's little gated garden. So we went rogue & added Google Cast plus Amazon Fire TV, Google TV, Samsung, & LG smart TVs. Just download the OnSong Display app on a compatible TV & stream your lyrics wirelessly like the wireless wizard you are. 📺✨
Files
Apple used to be like "sorry, files are only for USB cable stuff" 🙄 Android doesn't have that ancient nonsense, so we just let you import/export files straight from your device. Plus all your faves—Dropbox, Google Drive, OnSong Drive—are chillin' there too. You're welcome.
Fonts
Apple shipped with a bunch of licensed fonts (Helvetica, Georgia, etc.) that OnSong used forever. Problem: those licenses are messy & musicians need freedom. So we rebuilt our font system to be smarter & swapped in lookalikes that have their own personality. Bonus: you can use custom fonts now too. We're basically heroes. 🦸
Live Video
Your Android has cameras? ZOMG, use 'em for live video backgrounds on lyrics! iOS/iPadOS had Apple's filter collection (120+ effects), but Android wasn't havin' it. No worries—we recreated 92 of 'em, so honestly you probably won't notice. Probably. 📹
MIDI (Yes, Really)
Buckle up: we brought full MIDI power to Android, including Bluetooth MIDI & networked MIDI shenanigans. Our Bluetooth interface is custom-built & networked MIDI might act a lil weird, but it works across platforms. We're basically magicians. ✨🎹
Sharing
OnSong for Android's got the same beam & stream action & plays nice with OnSong Connect on your network. Point-to-point WiFi like OnCue? Nah, that's iOS/iPadOS only. (OnSong defaults to Connect anyway, so whatevs.) Also, email & sharing work differently because, you know, different OS. On iOS/iPadOS the OnSong® app uses Apple's mail system; Android does its own thing. It's fine. Trust us.
Subscription Stuff
Grab it from Google Play or Amazon Appstore & subscribe through those stores instead of Apple's. OR subscribe on the web if you wanna feel like you're in control (spoiler: you're not, capitalism is). Heads up: group subscriptions are web-only across all platforms. Sorry not sorry.
Vertical Menubar
OnSong for Android doesn't support vertical menubar mode yet. We know. We're workin' on our feelings about it.
