The Boring Stuff You Gotta Read
The Dork Tab™ lets you tweak literally everything about how your song looks on screen — low light mode, tint color, fonts, paper size, margins. Basically, if you care what your chord charts look like (& honestly, respect).
Vibe Mode
The mode is what makes your song not look like garbage on screen & can help if you've got visual stress disorders or just hate your eyes. Modes auto-adjust for Low Light Mode. Pick nothin'? OnSong defaults to... defaults. Here's the menu of sadness:
- Paper – pure black & white, maximum contrast, very "I printed this at Kinko's in 1997."
- Dim – like Paper but... dimmer. Shocking.
- Sepia – Dim with warm tones. It's like your song went to a coffee shop & got pretentious.
- Sky – blue tint overlay for visual stress folks. Sky mode is sky. Get it? We're hilarious.
Low Light Mode
Right next to the mode buttons is an icon — tap it to toggle low light mode. This goes system-wide, so congrats, now your whole iPhone looks like a cave. It'll mess with the mode you picked too. Every song & menu in OnSong gets the treatment. You're welcome.

On iOS/iPadOS 14 & higher, long-press that low light button & boom — the Song Invert Mode context menu shows up. From here you can flip low light mode for just this song 'cause you're special. Default is "default" (meta, right?), which means the song follows your system's vibe. But if you wanna force it dark or light independent of the app's low light mode, go freakin' nuts.
Font Fam
Four buttons at the top let you pick how your song looks typography-wise. Options:
- Georgia – serif font, supposedly easier on the eyeballs for some peeps.
- Helvetica – sans-serif, basically made for chord charts. It's the default. We said so.
- Courier – fixed-width, good if you're weird about chord alignment. No judgment.
- Marker – handwriting font that's skinny AF, so more stuff fits. Your grandma's notes had this energy.
Page Dimensionz
Set the virtual page size here, which messes with your font sizes. Bigger paper = tiny fonts. Smaller paper = giant fonts. Use the icons on the right to flip between portrait & landscape 'cause sometimes you gotta be horizontal about it.
Margins of Safety
Margins add breathing room around your song on screen. Handy if you need space for Hot Corners or Navigation Zones & you're also doing section selection. The icon on the right shows which edge got messed with: left, right, top, or bottom. You're welcome.
Footer Stuff
Set the footer size as a percentage of your lyrics font. There's also a button to turn it on & off because we knew you'd want that control.
Everything on this tab except low light mode applies to this song only. Different songs = different looks. We'll show you how to copy your fancy settings to other songs later, don't worry.
Wanna change the default vibe for *everything? Tap the wrench icon in the top left corner & cruise over to Style Preferences Document options. You're welcome again.*
