The Ear Candy Control Panel
Yo, so you wanna tweak how your backing tracks & metronome do their thing in OnSong? Sick. Tap that lil' headphones icon in the menubar & boom — you're in the Ear Candy Control Panel. It's basically the cockpit for all your audio shenanigans.
Here's what you can torture— er, configure:
Currently Vibin' Track
This is where you pick which banger gets to play along with your chord chart. Found some audio tracks that match? They show up right here, chief. Swipe left or right like you're on Tinder until you find "the one." If nothin's there — or you swipe so hard you break your screen — you'll see "No Song Selected" (tragic, we know). Then tap the "music stacks" icon to unlock the Pick Your Own Audio Disaster screen & dig through your iTunes Music Library like you're archaeologically excavatin' for your ex's playlist.
Or, y'know, just tap those boring arrow buttons in the upper right instead of swipe-spammin' like a maniac.
Your Playback BFFs
Right below your track selection, meet the gang:
- Play/Pause/Stop — The holy trinity. Tap play, your track goes whoooosh. Tap pause, it stops bein' loud. You got this.
- Time Scrubber — It's a lil' slider that lets you yeet yourself anywhere in the track like you're time-travellin'. Drag it, tap it, whatever. Current time & what's left are chillin' right there on the scrubber. You're welcome.
- Repeat Button — Wanna hear the same 8 bars of your song again & again & again? (Yes, we know you do.) This button's got your back.
Metronome Zone (AKA The Click Track That Never Shuts Up)
Set your tempo, toggle the click on & off, live your best life. Tap that play icon on the left to activate the metronome. Tap again to make it stop hauntin' you.
Drag the slider to adjust tempo like you're speedin' up a TikTok. Or tap left/right to bump the BPM up or down by whatever you set in Quantize BPM (defaults to 1 BPM, because we love glacial progress).
Too lazy to drag? Tap the BPM field & type it in with the keyboard like a civilized human. Or tap that last icon & literally tap the tempo into existence — we're not even mad, that's actually genius.
P.S.: When you link a fresh audio track, OnSong's gonna be all "yo, wanna sync the tempo?" You can also smash Acquire From Song next to the duration slider & let OnSong read the tempo & duration from your track like some kinda audio psychic.
Time Signature (For the Musically Neurotic)
Buttons! For pickin' time signatures! Which, y'know, messes with the metronome. Tap one to pick it. Tap it again to un-pick it. If you don't pick nothin', it defaults to 4/4 & the metronome just does its thing.
Got some weird 5/8 or 13/4 nightmare? Go to the Song Editor & nerd out there.
How Long Your Song Actually Is (Duration Station)
This matters for autoscroll — it tells OnSong how long to let the scroll keep scrollin'. Drag the slider to adjust, or tap left/right to add/subtract one second at a time. Or tap the field on the right & type it out in seconds or MM:SS format. We're not picky.
P.S.: Same deal as before — new audio track linked? OnSong asks if you wanna update duration. Or just tap Acquire From Song & let the app do the heavy liftin'.
Song Flow (AKA The "Actually Play It This Way" Section)
Alternate route to settin' up your Flow without messin' with the song file itself. Type abbreviations to arrange your song however your brain demands. Tap outside the text box & poof — redrawn.
Toggle the button on the right to turn flow on/off. Off = song plays as written (boring). On = applies your flow (spicy). Choose wisely.
What Apple Music Is Tryna Sell You
OnSong's out here huntin' iTunes for albums & tracks that might match your chord chart title. Boom — album art appears at the bottom like some kinda algorithmic Christmas tree. Tap an album to peep it in Apple Music & throw your money at the screen.
Not feelin' the hard sell? Kill it in Settings » Menu Settings » Playback. You're welcome.
