Squint Mode (aka The Dark Vibes)
ZOMG, so you know how iPads just... glow? Yeah, that's actually a feature when you're standin' on stage like some kinda rockstar. No need to lug around a desk lamp for your chord charts anymore — the iPad's already got that backlit magic. Plus the screen's tiny, so naturally everything's gotta be super contrasty & sharp just to read it. Startgin' in OnSong 2020.8, even those boring PDF files & non-text docs can party in low light mode now.
When You Should Probs Use This
So you're playin' on a stage that's darker than your sense of humor, or maybe you're outside where the sun's bein' a jerk? Yeah, low light mode's gonna be your bestie. But here's the thing — white paper & black text in dim lighting? YIKES. Your eyes gonna hurt, the screen's gonna make your face look like a ghost on stage, & your audience is gonna be real uncomfortable about it. Do everyone a favor & turn on low light mode so you can actually see & don't look like you're haunted.
How to Turn On Low Light Mode (It's Not Rocket Science)
Low light mode is hidin' in one of three places: a foot pedal, a hot corner, or the bleepin' settings screen. To actually enable it, go Settings » Display Settings » Enable Low Light Mode & flip that switch. Tap Done & BOOM — your screen redraws itself all dark & moody.
Now your chord chart & menus get that sweet black background with white text vibes. If you're one of those peeps who wants menus to stay white & text-y even in low light mode (we don't judge), go Settings » Menu Settings » Use Dark Menus in Low Light Mode & toggle that sucker.
Settin' Up a Shortcut (Because You're Lazy & We Love It)
You can flip low light mode on & off with a foot pedal, hot corner, or MIDI trigger. Srsly.
- To wire up a foot pedal, bounce over to the Foot Pedal Setup Screen, tap a pedal & pick Toggle Low Light Mode from the Actions Menu.
- For hot corners or navigation zones, head to Settings » Navigation Settings » Hot Corners or Navigation Zones & assign Toggle Low Light Mode to whatever part of the screen you wanna poke.
